iPhone Case Runner Up

Another friend of ours purchased this case.

Apple iPhone Soft Polycarbonate Slim fit Case

Apple iPhone Soft Polycarbonate Slim fit Case Buy from Amazon.com

This case is slim and sturdy and does not collect lint, and since the front glass on the iPhone is very durable you do not really need a protector for it. The design seems to protect the volume control button well enough too. It is runner up only because I was just shown it today.

So now I have three case options this one and the White Capsule-Protection Solution for the Apple iPhone by SwitchEasy  Buy from Amazon.com, and of course, the cream of the crop was the Vaja leather case.

I hope you all had as much fun case hunting as I did (didn’t).

These cases are pricey but so is the iPhone. the red one pictured above was $280 the purple-ish one was $80 and that is before you add custom text and graphics via laser engraving. iPhone's Achilles Heel

ii

I have the iPhone from Apple and really do love it. I also have a three year old and a dog and all kinds of ways to be bumped while handling my iPhone. Bumping leads to dropping and dropping leads to damage. I had the Motorola RAZR and some Samsung free phone both were dropped dinged and scratched dozens of times over their lifetime, but I never had damage so bad that the phone was unusable and had to be replaced. Geko on the other hand has washed some of her old phones and even then the only thing we had to do was replace the battery and just let the phone dry out before powering up.

I have dropped my I phone a few times without issue. This image shows the impact points.

Common impacts to my iPhone

I found the Achilles heal of the iPhone from a 4 foot drop out of my car after our dog, Graffiti bumped me. The iPhone hit the step rail on our 2004 Honda Element (great car BTW) and then the garage floor. After the drop, the iPhone required a power cycle and then returned to normal with one exception, the translucent ringer image pops up from time to time with even the slightest touch, my finger need only be near the side ringer volume control, and the window displaying max volume shows up which ruins my Google Maps, YouTube, Safari and virtually any other function I use my phone for. It is hard to show off my cool iPhone when the ringer window pops up incessantly.

Here are the images of the impact area that messed up the iPhone.

I did not have a protective case or cover I suggest if you get an iPhone to purchase a cover that protects the area around the ringer ON/OFF switch and the Volume Control Rocker Switch because a 0.17mm indent and 0.14mm depression on the up volume side of the Volume Controle Rocker Switch will make your iPhone i-life i-miserable. I was lucky it was not dinged on the volume down side because then I would never hear any of those cool iPhone rings, or YouTube videos or iPod melodies. I am keeping the phone for now since it still works and I am used to the annoyance of the ringer popping up from time to time. I am buying another iPhone for Geko for X-mas and will probably replace mine later next year since Apple’s service for the iPhone is: pay us enough to buy an new one and we’ll fix you broken one.

Here are some protectors for the iPhone from Amazon.com. Once I decide on skin I’ll post it.

Of course Project Gutenberg also offers free books for download to Palm organizers or smart phones but the view screens are not as nice and the selection of books is a lot fewer.
