Back to the Ethics of Scientific Imaging

I came across this today. The Scientific Working Group on Imaging Technology (SWGIT), has articles on the use of imaging technology in the criminal justice system in the United States. If you need a refresher on correct methods for imaging, or have concerns about your present imaging methods, check out how the people in the legal system have worked things out on the pages referenced here.

Ethics in scientific imaging has always been a fuzy subject, just think how hard it was to explain the objects seen through telescopes to laymen, and peers back in the day of, say Galileo.  With software like Photoshop making the craft of darkroom touch-up basically childsplay, it is important to find balance among your peers. The SWGIT people need to ensure their images hold up in court. Scientists usually have a peer review process that helps to define data worthy images from all out fraud. Peer review guides the scientist away from making big mistakes like the two headed rhino as a new species, instead of just a well shot photo.

I did have a problem with Windows XP pro SP3 with IE 7 updating so I did the following to correct:

First I went to Microsoft and did a software validation.

http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/

fix any issues, then validate it. (I had no issues and Update still failed)

That did not work so I did this:

Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Then Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Windows Update worked again.

Fence Painting Time

We started painting our fence, when well… After two hours we gave up.

Even our son gave up on painting. We spent two hours and got about 6ft.

So we went out and bought a paint sprayer system.

We took precautions like eye gear and a big piece of card board to keep paint out of eyes, and off neighbors yard and garage.

you can see the card board box took the brunt of the spray paint that missed the fence. We did the whole fence in two hours including clean up. So we could spend more time on our new patio and less time painting.

Weather Warning

When you walk out the door in the morning and see this in the sky:

Just go back in the house, pour another cup of coffee, and stay there.
It probably isn’t going to be a good day.

Thanks Melanie!

Clouds like those took out our cable modem and router yesterday.

We Fished

We went fishing yesterday at our secret fishing hole.

O caught his first fish of the year. Hold it higher.

See. We catch and release our fish. Though letting a 4yr old put the fish in back in the water can be a bit traumatic, but he is learning.

Sunday Morning Shoes

What is it about central Illinois and abandoned shoes? This Sunday we rode past this pair? and I just wonder why do we keep seeing pairs of shoes alone in the oddest of places? Are there alien abductions at work? We did have some strong winds blast through on Friday, maybe the wearer got blown away to Oz and all that is left is her shoes. We’ll never know I suppose.
